Firefox Firefox: 2.0.0.*

Install Now (Linux)

Getting Started

Pyro is easy to get up and running. Just install the Pyro Compzilla extension and run Firefox from the Linux command line with a special url.

Installing Pyro 0.1 for Firefox 2

Download and install the Pyro Compzilla 0.1 extension for Firefox 2. This extension is built to work with recent Firefox 2 versions.

Running Compzilla

Once you've either installed the pre-built extension, or built and installed your own from source code, you should be able to get things going by running this:

$ firefox -chrome chrome://compzilla/content/start.xul

Pretty simple huh?

If you intend to play around with Pyro a lot, you may want to create another Mozilla profile to insulate your regular Firefox settings.

Installing Pyro 0.2 (pre-release)

Download and install Pyro 0.2 for your version of Firefox. After installation, Firefox will ask restart. Now you should see an entry in your browser's Tools menu called "Start Pyro Desktop".

Choosing this will ask if you want to replace your current window manager with Pyro Desktop. Clicking "Replace" will cause your existing window manager to exit in favor of Pyro.

After this, the entire desktop and all applications will be drawn by Pyro from within Firefox. Firefox will continue to work just as before, allowing you to browse using new windows and tabs.

That's it!
